Dis declares a warning with 'Caution'
Being the first I’ve heard from Dis, there’s nothing that can be past referenced. However, with this ‘Caution’ release, there were a number of elements that hooked us in from the jump.
The instrumental is punchy and pushes the entire track along. Dis’ chorus is perfectly formed to be catchy and something for an audience to remember/sing back. Furthermore her flow is one of rivaling the current top drill artists. She raps “Name one chick that’s got this flow”. Shit, name any rapper that’s got that flow. It’s unique, works well with her voice, and doesn’t sound rushed, but still not lazy.
The tune is getting mixed reviews in GRM’s comments, although maybe that is the case with every release. It’s personally felt that the beat, tempo, rhyme pattern all create for an exciting and appealing song. Dis should recognise this and attempt to push the record into the sight of those in charge of radio, publications, online promo, etc - all music intermediaries. A decent campaign can change a lot, and as visuals already have over 23,000 views plus Dis has nearly 20,000 Instagram followers, there’s definitely something there. However, there seems a sense of, would this have banged more with a with a better known artist?; Been more received with a greater pre-release campaign?; Been noticed by higher ups if it had been a male artist even?. Which of course, especially the latter, is a shame.
