MCTR evokes emotion on 'Faith' with Chri$ Davis
German producer MCTR, licks out this heavy yet emotion-filled beat with Colorado rapper Chri$ Davis.
A frequently craftsman of heavy and loud instrumentals (‘Rust’; ‘Down’), MCTR uses similar techniques on this record. Yet swaying away from just blunt force, here the trap producer implements melody and emotion to deliver an open, sweet, honest but mean atmosphere.
Amidst heavy reverb and using a delicately whining harmony, reminiscent of early Yung Lean or other members of the Sad Boys crew, MCTR provokes the true feel of this record; at times, almost pain sounding. This instrument sits prominently above melting bass, pounding kicks, slapping snare, and later on, rhythmic synth pulses.
American lyricist Chri$ Davis, steps in for the hook which sees the beat switch up slightly to something more accommodating for an artist to rap over. Floating in and out of the mix, Davis plays his part well in the mix; spitting on a musician’s grind - partnering well with the instrumental’s already developed feel. Though being the pairs first track together, MCTR has stated that they are working on some more projects in the future.
