THROWBACK: One of the best storyteller tracks ever, Ghetts 'Karma'
As storyteller-type tracks go, this may be one of the best, most movie like, most savage records that we have. Not just from Ghetts, but from the entire UK scene: ‘Karma’.
Taken from his 2011 release of Momentum and hosted by the legendary DJ Whoo Kid, Ghetts lays out a sinister and in depth narrative of late night lurking. The record begins with scene setting, chilling piano keys, as the East London rapper takes stage to spit this reality. The instrumental, produced by the DAW monster, Z Dot, is fairly minimal, though this only elevates Ghetts as the narrator and creates a sense of mystery, danger, and isolation.
Laying out the lyrics or story, would not give the song the justice it deserves. Ghetts tonalities within hold a sense of passion, meaning, and emotion that only he can portray. Best thing, is to just listen to the track if you haven’t heard it before. And for those of us that have, it will forever be a timeless banger and rolls hand in hand with Ghetts’ legacy, crud classics, and extremely talented lyricism.
