THROWBACK: Skepta's energy is the greatest life goal in '2006 Freestyle'

With the highly anticipated Skepta’s ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’ tomorrow, we thought this would be a good time to remember one comically energetic freestyle and how we all need that level of excitement in our lives from time to time.

During a Mixing Records DVD from 2006, we witness an avalanche of young, darkly dressed, tough spirited lyrical warriors - Jme, Skepta, Wario, Trigz, and Shorty. Packed up in presumably someones bedroom, the group lay their bars one after the other; all bringing their own style; all being hyped by the surrounding others; and all delivering quality performances. However, other than Jme’s legendary attitude and bars, Skepta by far steals the show with his big persona, classically wicked lyrics, and playful energy.

His presence during the beginning (whilst Jme is spitting), and his entrance into his performance is what makes this freestyle so memorable and entertaining. 1:15: if your bro isn’t hyping you up like this, you wana find your birth certificate and double check your biological parents. 1:45: personally, I’m trying to start every day with this attitude; walk into every interview; every family Christmas; Grandma’s 96th birthday; Niece’s school talent show; my boy’s first child - i.e. self-health tips from Big Smoke 101.
After an explosion of build up excitement, the former Meridian resident rattles out shell upon shell of big bars. Starting it off with giant presence - “Yo Skepta, why you murking so many MCs. That’s the word on the road.”
Sporting what was once iconic from the BBK leader, a white ushanka, he unravels this freestyle amongst flurry of bouncy movements, flailing arms and large expressions, before the other members of the crews join with their pieces.

In amazement this DVD is still available via Stay Clever.
