Manchester's whYJay & Ayo Britain merge sweet & bitter artistry on 'Bonnie & Clyde'
Producer, whYJay and rapper, Ayo Britain, merge artistries to deliver on the bright and mesmerising ‘Bonnie & Clyde'.
Manchester’s beatsmith, whYJay, who is the mastermind behind Aitch’s productions and played a huge role in his debut album AitcH20, steps out with his first single. This must have been well planned as it presents a phenomenally exuberant and shimmering vibe, that almost seems to have a layer of good-energy gloss covered over it. This is made up from the lush timbres used and dancing melodies. Detaching itself from rap or afrobeats, the instrumental creates a mid-ground using sound that we may find in the more exotic genre, yet pumping through hard hitting kicks and other percussion.
Ayo Britain brings further melodies; cutting through the mix with his fast flows and hypnotising, sweet vocals. Though nothing’s sweet about Brtiain’s lyrics - as is understandable due to the track’s title ‘Bonnie and Clyde’, advancing on a bitter narrative.
Directed by SVMI, the visuals elevate themselves above the common viewing of houses, cars, and luxury to deliver an actually good video. An interesting video that present nice shots, creative edits, compelling scenery - it holds our attention. Overall everything about the track is dope. The instrumental is bright and unusual; Ayo’s vocals elevate this higher with partnered harmonies and attractive lulls; and the video tops it off, by giving us a further piece of content that is visually appealing.
